As part of our Interaction Design process we define criteria and metrics that can be used to evaluate whether a user interface solution meets the needs of the user and improves their experience using the product.
Design metrics are customized for each project, but may include the following types of evaluation questions.
Does the interaction solution:
- Strengthen the overall conceptual model?
- Provide a simple overview of what the entire product can do?
- Group features and tasks appropriately for easier recall and access?
- Use consistent concepts, terminology and interface mechanisms throughout.
- Consolidate and simplify the working environment.
- Improve and streamline navigation.
- Layer and reveal information appropriately to improve user focus and accessibility of functions.
- Improve overall product aesthetics.
- Reinforce corporate identity.
- Require only minimal relearning for existing users.
- Adhere appropriately to system user interface guidelines and standards.
- Allow for customization of product, either by end-user or developer.
- Allow for interface to be scaled to accommodate future functionality.
