We consulted with Connectix on the design of the Connectix Videophone for Windows and Macintosh. The Connectix Videophone was a hardware and software solution that enabled users to make live video phone calls. The product provided a video view of the local, and remote users, an address book and directory interface, a text chat feature, as well as the options necessary to control the quality/speed of the exchange and the status of the call.

We reviewed the existing application on both Mac and Windows platforms to assess the usability of the application and identify areas for improvement.

The next stage of work involved designing alternatives for the overall metaphor of the interface. Rough mockups of alternatives were reviewed by the team and a direction for further development was selected based on feedback.

The overall "remote control" metaphor was refined and specific interaction issues were resolved through a series of bitmap images and interactive demos.

The final "look" of the application was then developed through a visual exploration of window, control and icon styles.
