The Be icon style was developed in conjunction with the overall window and desktop design. The window and desktop elements evolved over a longer period of time as features were implemented and through a very iterative design process. The concepts for the "doc" and "workspace" especially evolved over a long period of time based on implementation issues and constraints. The window design system included the desktop, browser windows and dialogs, menus, alerts, etc.
